Lamb numbers increased significantly. Quality was mixed but there were some excellent pens of extra heavy lambs. All buyers
were present and competition was strong for trade lambs sending prices higher by $6 to $9/head.
Light trade made from $116 to $138/head. Medium trade lambs made from $129 to $161/head. Heavy trade sold from $155 to
$174/head and averaged 645c/kg cwt. Heavy lambs made from $164 to $185, with extra heavy lambs making from $176 to
$230/head. Heavy Merino lambs topped at $175/head. Lambs to restockers and feed made from $70 to $128/head.
Mutton numbers were similar to last week. Quality was not as good this week and competition was subdued. Crossbred ewes
18-24 kg sold up to $20 cheaper making to $138, while heavy Merino ewes made to $165, hoggets sold to $164 and wethers to
$134/head.

Tuesday 1500 yarded.
Bullocks and heavy Steers firm to 305c. Heavy Heifers 10c dearer to 285c. In a generally lacklustre trade market reflective of the gradual decline in quality due to the dry season Yearling Steers to 320c, Heifers to 306c and Vealers to 338c. Feeder Steers firm but the Heifer portion 7c dearer.
Wednesday 620 Cows and 25 Bulls yarded.
Heavy Cows firm 212 to 242c. Medium cows 2 to 4c dearer 205 to 229c. Light Cows looked 3 to 4c cheaper 140 to 185c. Bulls 5c cheaper to 252c.
WANGARATTA WEEKLY MARKET
WANGARATTA FAT CATTLE MARKET 28th April

A heavier yarding of 458 head came forward at Wangaratta this morning, this was 73 more than last week and comprised 393 young cattle, 62 cows and 3 bulls.
Quality was much improved with a good selection of grown steers and bullocks, a reasonable offering of grass and supplementary fed heifers and a sprinkling of quality milk vealers through the market. A mixed offering of 62 cows were on offer.
Demand was solid for all classes with grown steers and bullocks firm to 2c per kilogram dearer, heifers rose by 5c per kilogram and vealers remained firm on the dearer rates of last week. Cows also sold to firm rates.
